Mission Beach is an unspoilt piece of tropical paradise sandwiched in between a beautiful piece of World Heritage-listed rainforest and a tranquil blue ocean housing the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The home to the cassowary, one of Australia’s most unique birds, it’s a fantastic place to see, with nearby Dunk Island a popular exploration spot ripe with rainforest works, secluded beaches and great campgrounds, and its location closest to the reef allows for some great snorkelling and diving. It’s also a great place to experience some of the best adrenalin sports Australia has to offer; the nearby Tully River is a great place to go white-water rafting (though don’t go swimming, because you’ll be sharing the waters with stingers and crocs), there are plenty of skydiving companies that operate in and around this amazing small town.
How would you like to jump out of an airplane from more than 10,000 feet and freefall down to the Earth in a safe manner? If you’ve ever wanted to experience this thrill, or if you want to get over your fear of this feeling, skydiving may be the adrenalin sport for you. It’s going to involve a jump attached to an experienced and licensed skydiver, called a tandem jump. You’ll be flying through the air for about a minute or two until the instructor tells you to pull the string for the parachute. You two will gently float down to the drop site below.
Mission Beach is home to a large amount of skydiving companies, and it’s one of a few places in Queensland where you can actually dive right onto the beach if you want. The choice is yours, of course, but talk to the reception desk at your accommodation; they’re really helpful in making a decision.
Skydiving at Mission Beach is an exhilarating, adrenalin pumping adventure that leaves you ready for more! With views of 14kms of golden beaches, lush rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef and Tropical Islands, going on a skydive is well worth any fear you may have!
Another big thing to do in Mission Beach is to go for a white-water rafting trip. Sailing down the Tully River, you’ll be able to take advantage of some pretty rough rapids as you head through World Heritage-listed rainforest.
