How does the money work? Why are there so many coins?!

Australian money is divided into coins and bills of all different colours, sizes and shapes. The smallest bill is a $5 note. This is both the smallest in quantity and in size – it is purple. From there bills increase in size and each quantity is a different colour.
Coins come in both silver and copper. The copper coins are dollar coins, the smaller equalling $2 and the larger equalling $1. The silver coins are the cents. A $0.50 coins has flat edges and is the largest of the coins. There are also a $0.20, $0.10, and $0.05 coin. Australia does not have a penny, and so all sums due are rounded to the nearest $0.05.
Don’t worry, after a week of fumbling with your wallet you will get the hang of it!
