Climate
Summer is warm (25 - 30) with a fair amount of rain. Winter is cooler (5 - 15 ) with little rain and colder temperatures in the surrounding highlands.
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) was created by the Australian Constitution in 1901 to be a government base between the major centres of Melbourne and Sydney. Canberra, the only city in the territory, is the government Capital of Australia.
The 2400 square kilometres territory is bordered on all sides by New South Wales and is situated very close to the Snowy Mountains. The ACT is unique in that more than 70 per cent of the territory is designated as National Park or Natural bushland — making it a bushwalkers paradise.
