BRING ON THE GOLD

Kalgoorlie is famous for its gold rush history, old buildings and gold miners' ghost towns. The town was born in the 1880s gold rush, as thousands of prospectors made their way east of Perth, seeking fortune. Today the town is still an active mining town and the 3.5 kilometre long, 1.5 kilometre wide Super Pit Mine - where 800,000 ounces of gold are produced each year. This giant hole is as deep as Uluru and almost the same size.

Visit the Australian Prospectors and Miners Hall of Fame and step back in time to the towns origins. Hannan Street is the place to be - lined with pubs, nightclubs, cafes, and restaurants.

Three hours north is the town of Leonora, a beautifully old fashioned outback town. A great day trip during your stay in Kalgoorlie. While there, head over to the ghost town of Gwalia, home to original and historic buildings and sites – a must see!

Check out The Royal Flying Doctor Service Kalgoorlie Visitor Centre and gain insight into the work of one of Australia's truly legendary organisations.

When the day is done and you are looking for somewhere to crash for the night never fear - caravan parks, campsites, hostels, hotels and motels are available.
