Lancelin
Tell a FriendWINDSURFING MECCA OF THE WORLD
A small fishing town a one hour drive north of Perth. The town sits among the sand dunes, along the edge of a bay, on the Indian Ocean surrounded by outer reefs and islands. The waters are perfect for swimming, fishing, boating, and all other water activities, and there are many available!
The town lives for the water. The reef provides the perfect conditions for snorkelling, scuba diving, surfing, and wave sailing. There are 14 shipwrecks along the coast to explore. Lancelin is also an international Mecca for windsurfers.
Back Beach is the safe place to go body-boarding, surfing, and swimming, with plenty of great sunbathing spots. During the day the jetties are bursting with activity with a fleet of rock lobster boats hard at work.
Sea lions live on Lancelin Island and regularly come into the bay. The bay is also home to dolphins that love to show off, so keep an eye out. Birds and wildflowers are everywhere, especially during spring.
THINGS TO SEE AND DO:
A little further to the east, you’ll find snow-white sand dunes, a great spot for sand boarding, dune buggy-ing, motor biking, and four wheeling. Dune buggy racing is a popular pastime. Even if your not the dune buggy sort, the sand dunes are worth a visit for the spectacular panoramic lookout over the town, surrounding sand hills, farmlands, coastline, islands, and ocean – a sight you wont want to miss.
SOMEWHERE TO STAY:
As far as accommodation goes - there are tons of choices, from backpacker hostels and caravan parks, to motels and cottages.
