Just a short ferry ride from Perth, Rottnest Island, or Rotto as it is called locally, is home to some of the worlds finest bays and beaches and some unique plants and wildlife, such as the quokka. It’s a great place to spend a few days when travelling around Perth.
Get away and relax on one of the islands 63 secluded beaches on this small 11x5km island. Rotto is an entirely car-free zone adding to its refreshing, uncrowded feel. Its protected bays make it a great place to head out diving or snorkelling on the coral reefs or at one of the 13 shipwreck sites.
Bicycle is the preferred form of transportation on the island - there are many bike hire shops around. If bikes aren’t for you, never fear, there is also a bus service and guided tours that can take you around the island and tell you about its colonial and World War history
There is tons to do! Soak up some rays at the beach. Make a splash in the beautiful waters. Grab your surf board and catch a few waves. Take a stroll through the wonderful scenery. Rent a kayak and head out into the water. Take a guided walking tour of the island. Hop on board a scenic flight and view Rottnest from the sky. Go fishing for the day and see if you can catch your dinner. Ride over to Oliver Hill on the railway that once hauled guns and ammunition for the Army. The Family Fun Park is always good for bit of fun. Check out the Rottnest Museum and learn about the islands history and its important role in World War I and II. Or pop into your trainers and join a game of tennis, lawn bowls, or golf.
