Is Australia a safe country to travel in?

Tell a Friend

Travel in Australia, like any other country, can be dangerous. However, Australia is ranked one of the safest countries in which to travel, so dont be concerned when planning your trip!

As when travelling in any country, while in Australia be sure to take certain precautions.

  • Take caution when walking or using public transportation after dark.
  • Always stay to well lit areas and sit near bus drivers or train conductors, especially if you have baggage with you.
  • Always keep items of value with you or in a safe place and keep photocopies separate from originals.
  • If you're going away on your own be sure to keep in regular contact with friends and family and tell them where you go and when you expect to return.
  • Be familiar with Australia's most dangerous marine and land animals and know what to do if stung or bitten. Be prepared!
  • Most important — trust your instincts. If you have a feeling you're getting into a bad situation, get out before it becomes a problem.

Another good bit to remember is that you are a guest in Australia. While you should have fun, enjoy yourself, and experience all of the wonderful things Australia has to offer, do not forget that while here you must obey all Australian laws and can and will be held accountable for your actions. You don’t want to be deported for breaking a law!

Be smart, watch how much you drink, think before you act and you’ll have no worries!
