Kiribilli Market and Luna Park

Upon arriving in Sydney, a good place to start your adventure is in one of Sydney’s many weekend markets, such as the Kiribilli General Markets. Located just outside the Milsons Point train station. The Kiribilli Markets are open the last Saturday of each month from 8am to 3pm and are host to a variety of stalls and goods.

With something to munch on in hand, picked up from one of the many food stalls, take your time wandering about admiring all the market has to offer. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to shop in Sydney, the markets are the place to be! Clothing starting at $10 and a large range of prepared food and sweats to choose from. While this particular market doesn’t focus much on the fresh produce side of things, it makes a good place to wander about and have a bit of a snack.

With a full stomach you can then head down to the Sydney Harbour. Next stop, Luna Park! Milsons Point is probably most famous for the amusement park located under the northern pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge: Luna Park. And believe me, it is quite an experience walking through ‘the face’ to the sudden bombardment of rides, bells, bright lights, and children’s excitement. While the amusement park itself is aimed towards a younger crowd I would very much suggest a walk through, if for nothing else than to say you have walked through the Face! And if that’s not reason enough – the view of the harbour walking back towards the station should make it a must see!

Quite less travelled, the path along the harbour under the bridges northern pylons offers fantastic views of the CBD, Harbour Bridge, and the Opera House. A good photo spot, and with the addition of the Kiribilli Markets you can fill up a good portion of your day watching the sailboats go by. If you are out earlier in the morning on a weekend, many Milsons Point residents are out with their families, fishing under the bridge, wandering through the markets or having a morning stroll with a coffee. It is a nice relaxing atmosphere in which to begin your stay in Sydney. As well as a great opportunity to snap a few fantastic photos of Sydney’s iconic sights!
