Pros and cons of Sydney

+ The Harbour and Botanical gardens (Circular Quay) - this area is just soo beautiful! The Harbour Bridge, the Opera house, Botanical gardens... It’s nice to have a picnic in the Botanical gardens on a sunny day and just sit and look at the sea.

+ The Rocks - This area is mainly for tourists but it is still beautiful with the old houses and the small cosy cafes and restaurants. Eating here is a bit more expensive but it is definitely worth it. The Rocks market is also nice; my favourite is the jewellery they sell there.

+ The ferries - you see even more of the amazing harbour.

+ Mosman Bay - leafy area with stunning houses.

+ Newtown is a very interesting area with a lot of small cosy restaurants and cafes and weird but interesting shops.

+ The free shuttle bus 555 that goes along George street to Circular Quay.

+ The delicious and CHEAP sushi rolls they sell almost everywhere. I by mine at Wynyard train station in the afternoon when they are even cheaper. Try the cooked tuna or tamago rolls!

+/- Sydney is very international - if you aren’t Australian you won’t feel like an outsider here because there are so many people from overseas. At the same time this is a bit disappointing because if you want to learn about the Australian culture or hear the Australian accent you have definitely come to the wrong place. Sometimes it feels like you are in Asia, not in Australia!

+/- The food courts - they are really practical because there are so many different styles of food to choose from. You can have lunch at the same food court everyday and never get bored of the food. The down side is that they are so convenient that you stop going to “real” restaurants with quality food.

+/- The Opera House - beautiful on the outside but oh so ugly on the inside. I guess you shouldn’t judge a book buy its cover.

- Paddy’s markets - yes it’s cheap but the stuff they sell is total junk! It is also always way too crowded.

- Bondi beach. It’s such a disappointment! It is just an overcrowded beach, nothing special about it.

- The western suburbs - horrible! One visit to the western suburbs was enough for me; I’m never going back there again. Don’t go further west than Newtown is my advice.

- George Street - the slow walking tourists are annoying.
