Yummy Yummy Yum Cha

Maybe I have lived a rather sheltered life, but I had never heard of yum cha before arriving in Sydney. Oh my goodness was I missing out!

If you like Asian food, and especially if you like seafood, a yum cha restaurant on a Sunday morning is the place to be. Scattered all across Sydney are Asian restaurants, making an excellent meal any time of day. If you are looking for a good place to go for breakfast on a Sunday morning, trust me, go for yum cha.

It is not traditional dining, which if you ask me, makes it extra fun. There are no menus, and you may wind up with a few dishes you never expected to taste. (I ate cow stomach by accident this past Sunday, I do not recommended it.) Trolleys heaped with delicious steaming food come right to your table, serving dumplings, dim sum, spring rolls, sweet and savoury buns, along with a host of other steamed vegetable and prawn based dishes. The dishes are small, and designed to be shared among the table. Taste as many different dishes as you can, you will want to! To accompany the many tasty and unexpected dishes, is a pot of piping hot green tea, the perfect combination!

Yum cha is very fun in a large group and is an inexpensive way to eat out on the weekends. If you head over to Dixon Street or anywhere in Haymarket you will find a restaurant serving yum cha on most every corner. Be sure to get there early though, or be prepared to wait, as things start to get busy around 11am.

I went to Emperors Garden across from Paddy's Market, it was very good. Comment below and tell us your favourite yum cha spot and help future travellers find the best place to go!
