Head for Palace Adventures on Fraser Island - the perfect launchpad for your Queensland adventure holiday. Located just off the coast of southern Queensland, Fraser Island is the world's largest sand island - over 123km

in length and just 25km at its widest point.

Named after shipwreck victim Eliza Fraser, the world heritage sub-tropical Fraser Island has a truly amazing array of natural wonders, including beautiful rainforests, pristine lakes, endless surf beaches, immense sand blows, cliffs of coloured sands, crystal clear streams and vast stretches of mangroves.

Explore shipwrecks and ancient Aboriginal sites along withthe unique beauty and native wildlife of Fraser Island including dingoes, brumbies (wild horses) echidnas, wallabies and an astonishing 206 species of birds.

What's the best way to see Fraser Island? Head straight for Palace Adventures and create your very own adventure holiday. Choose from camping, bush-walking and 4-wheel driving with Palace Adventures 4 x 4 hire and our three day, two night self drive camping 4WD Safari.

When we arrived on the island, the very helpful staff at Palace started with a suggested itinerary, maps and information sheets about Fraser Island and showed us a helpful video briefing

They then got us completely set up with a vehicle that was safe and easy to drive, had a full tank of fuel and was big enough to lock all our gear into.

The maximum passengers allowed per vehicle is limited to ten, to maximise space and comfort. A current full drivers' licence and a minimum of two years driving experience.

They also supplied all our camping equipment, including camp mats, beach cricket and football gear and a suggested menu and grocery list.

Another bonus was Palace's teepee-style tents. The tents sleep up to four people and take all of about 30 seconds to put up.

Some of the things that really impressed us about Palace Adventures were a very thorough and detailed safety briefing on the morning of our departure. All their high-top vehicles have engineer-approved roll bars fitted and first aid kits.

Access to Hervey Bay allowed us more opportunities to see whales, dolphins and turtles in the bay, as well as direct access to the many lakes on the island.

So what was my top pick after touring the island? The sensational Champagne Pools and Orchid Beach. Miss them at your peril!
